Dayton collapses during State of the State address

Forty-five minutes into Governor Mark Dayton’s annual State of the State address, the 69-year-old collapsed.

Officials helped the Dayton to the ground after he hit is head on the House of Representatives lectern. A number of state legislators with medical and paramedical experience rushed to the rostrum to give aid to the governor.

The Saint Paul Pioneer Press:

After a few minutes, Dayton was helped up and out of the chamber. The House’s sergeant-at-arms brought a basic first aid kit which included oxygen to Dayton, but the governor was helped up before the kit could be used.

About half an hour after Dayton’s collapse, his son Eric Dayton said on Twitter that his father was doing better.

The joint session of the Minnesota Legislature was quickly adjourned while the governor was receiving care.

After being checked out at the Capitol, Dayton was taken back to his residence without going to a hospital for further observation.
