A custodian of the Cathedral of Saint Paul discovered a baby boy Wednesday night. The cathedral rector called police, baptized the baby, and named him after the custodian.
The boy was discovered in a laundry basket, wrapped in blankets, in an entryway of the Cathedral — inside the side door to Dayton Avenue, according to police and officials with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. An employee conducting regular rounds of the building found the baby.
It was unknown how long the infant had been there. Police were called about 6 p.m. Wednesday to assist paramedics.
The baby, described as newly born, was taken to a hospital and turned over to Ramsey County Child Protection, Ernster said.
